Description | U.S. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist says he would welcome Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman into the Republican caucus, if the incumbent is successful in his independent bid at regaining office.
"What happened to Joe Lieberman is interesting," he said during a visit to the Iowa State Fair. "It shows the Democratic Party has moved far to the left. Joe has a great shot at winning. My phone call would be one of the first he receives (if he wins)."
Democratic primary challenger Ned Lamont defeated Lieberman earlier this month. Lieberman refused to call it quits and is running as an independent. If he is sucessful in his efforts to retain his seat, Frist said the GOP would invite him to its caucus. |
