Description | Memphis city elections are nearly a year away, but the campaigning has unofficially begun.
Memphis City Council member Carol Chumney told a group gathered Saturday at Davis Kidd Bookseller's on Perkins Ext. that she plans to put her hat in the ring for city mayor next year.

Memphis Mayor Willie Herenton announced last August in the heat of the Confederate park debate that he planned to seek a record fifth term.
He hinted at his intent even earlier during his prayer breakfast on New Year's Day 2005 -- just a year into his current term. There he showed off a glossy black-and-gray bumper sticker proclaiming WW ... The Mayor ... 2007, though he never officially announced. |
