DescriptionGovernor Kathleen Blanco has signed into law legislation that bans the sale of sexually explicit video games to anyone younger than 18.

Senate bill 340 by Senator James David Cain will go into effect August 15th. The bill amends the state's "harmful to minors law" that also bans the sale of sexually oriented magazines, records, tapes and other items.

It also sets parameters that a judge or jury can use to determine whether the questionable material violates the law. The bill also requires the clerk or store personnel to demand identification from the customer before renting or selling the video game.

Those who violate the law can be punished by up to a year in jail and a two-thousand dollar fine.
