Description | That this Congress passes tax cuts apparently is hardly news these days.
At least, the latest action to extend by two years some $70 billion of the Bush administration's tax cuts barely made the front pages and the evening news last month...
There was one Republican senator - George Voinovich of Ohio - who had the guts to stand up on May 3 when the Senate gave the tax cuts final approval - cuts, incidentally, that mainly benefits taxpayers with more than $200,000 in annual income - so that George Bush could quickly make it law.
As Washington Post columnist David Broder commented, Voinovich's speech was met with a yawn from both his GOP colleagues and the press. |
