Description | State Sen. Bill Finkbeiner, the Kirkland Republican who cast the crucial vote in favor of a statewide gay rights law earlier this year, won’t seek re-election to another four-year term.
Finkbeiner, former Senate majority leader, announced Thursday that he is bowing out of politics after a 14-year career to pursue his master’s degree in business administration at the University of Washington and to work on an as-yet-unspecified business venture.
“My family and I have agreed that the time is right to step aside and give someone else an opportunity to represent the district as senator while I turn my attention to a career outside politics,” he said.
Although his vote to protect homosexuals from discrimination gained him notoriety this past legislative session, it had no bearing on his decision not to run again. |
