Description | Burlington Mayor-elect Bob Kiss will decide next week whether to continue in his other elected post -- serving as a member of the Vermont House of Representatives -- now that he has been elected to the top job in the state's largest city.
"I feel like I have to talk to a few people in Montpelier before I can make that decision," Kiss said Thursday.
Kiss assumes his new job as Burlington's mayor April 4, just as the Legislature shifts into high gear in the annual push to wrap up work by May. Kiss heads the Progressive Party caucus in the House and serves on the House Judiciary Committee.
Kiss isn't prohibited from holding both positions, but as he noted, "There is no doubt, to be mayor of Burlington is a full-time job."
Other legislators have stayed in office despite having missed weeks, months or even an entire session because of illness, injury or, in one recent case, National Guard training and deployment. |
