Description | Eight months ago, I began my campaign by saying that I believed Iowa’s best days are ahead.
In the months and days since then, I have traveled to every corner of this state and talked to Iowans from all walks of life – and I have seen not one thing that has changed my belief in Iowa’s bright future.
I have, however, seen that Iowa’s future is at risk if we do not fight for it.
It’s at risk if we continue to lose manufacturing jobs, if we let our education system slip, and if we let our children and hard-working families go without the basic right of health care.
In short, the future of our state is at risk if we turn the clock back and turn the Governor’s office over to Jim Nussle or Bob Vander Plaats – instead of continuing the progress of the Vilsack-Pederson years.
So the stakes in this election could not be higher – not just for our Democratic Party, but for all Iowans.
If we are to keep Iowa moving forward, we need a leader with vision, ideas, and energy – and we need a candidate who can win in November and ensure that our state’s future stays bright.
Through the course of this campaign, I have come to know that Chet Culver is that leader.
That’s why today I am ending my candidacy for Governor. I am proud to stand with my friend in support of his campaign, and I am honored to join him in making his vision a reality for all Iowans. |
