DescriptionFeathers continue to fly over comments District Attorney Terence Hallinan made in last week's New Yorker piece on Fajitagate. ... "Our police department is terrible," Hallinan said in the piece. "It's a weird town. It's apparently the most liberal town in America, but, at the same time, it's so traditional. The police get promoted through seniority. There's a good-old-boy tradition. They do a poor job of solving murders. They just do a poor job."
A Hallinan spokesman said the quote "stands on its own." Challenger Bill Fazio, darling of the Police Officers Association, uncharacteristically resisted a temptation to slam Hallinan over the piece. "It's another example of finger-pointing -- that is what I want to stay away from," said Fazio. ... Kamala Harris, also running for the seat, was only slightly less restrained. "Certainly we're looking at a time in San Francisco when there is, at best, a hostile relationship between the district attorney and police," said Harris. "What that tells us is a lot of work needs to be done on both ends to restore confidence." But don't recent polls show that the overwhelming majority of S.F. voters distrust the police? Harris was asked. "Nobody's done a more recent poll than we have, and I guarantee you there is even less trust in the DA's office," said Harris.

Meanwhile the Hallinan campaign is about to get some much-needed help. Kayo has signed on two veteran operatives who ran the victorious campaign of public defender Jeff Adachi. Helping out Terence's cause will be Bob Henderson and Sueanne McNeil. ... Both had been working on the Ammiano campaign. ... "Wow, you guys are fast," said McNeil when contacted Thursday. She said she could "neither confirm nor deny the rumor - until the campaign puts out an official statement." ... Speaking of the DA race, Fazio's campaign says it has raised more than $100,000, with 461 contributors. The average donation was $198. ... Campaign manager Duane Baughman says 72 percent of the donors have never given to Faz before. ... Fazio will formally announce Wednesday at 850 Bryant. ...
