Description | (IsraelNN.com) It is all but certain that Shimon Peres will not agree to accept a formal position on Ariel Sharon’s Kadima lineup, but nevertheless, there are other options available to the octogenarian statesman. Notwithstanding, some Laborites are still predicting Mr. Peres will accept a slot on Sharon’s Knesset list.
One such option includes Peres resigning from Labor and supporting Sharon as an independent outsider, with the prime minister well aware that such support would ensure him several additional Knesset seats, the votes of Peres loyalists. Peres would then receive a special tailor-made position, most likely not a cabinet post but an independent peace-maker or senior policy negotiator who answers directly to the prime minister. |
