Description | The Social Democratic party and the Christian Democrats today agreed to hold talks on forming a "grand coalition" if talks with their preferred partners fail to produce a new German government.
The German chancellor, Gerhard Schröder said he was ready for coalition talks with other parties with no preconditions.
However, he did not repeat his earlier statement that his Social Democrat party (SPD) would only enter the government with him as chancellor. |
