09/09/05 - A survey of Georgians likely to vote in the Republican Primary in Georgia next year asked: “If the primary election for Republican candidate for Lieutenant Governor of Georgia was held today and the candidates were Casey Cagle and Ralph Reed who would you vote for?” A majority, 53%, were undecided, though Reed has more voters who have chosen him (27%) over his opponent Cagle, whose support is at 20%. Observers say that there is enough time before the primary for either candidate to make significant inroads among the undecideds, but also that any gain of Reed supporters by Cagle could hamper the Reed campaign significantly. “The ‘take-away’ factor is key to this race now,” said one insider. “If Cagle can pull 2% of the decideds away from Reed, everything is statistically dead even.” The poll was conducted August 12 – August 16, 2005 and has a maximum sampling error of +/- 4%. Which means that the race for Georgia’s Lieutenant Governor will be close and hard-fought for now.
MY BIASED THOUGHTS: Considering how extensive and well known Ralph Reed is to Republican voters, 7 points is a dead heat and an indication that Georgians aren’t buying what he’s selling… |
