Citing his age and declining energy level, former state Commerce secretary Bob Royall said Wednesday he has decided not to challenge Gov. Mark Sanford in the 2006 Republican primary.
Unhappy with the governor’s leadership on economic development, several prominent business and professional leaders approached Royall last month about running against Sanford.
Royall, 70, said he took a serious look at the race but decided “getting into the ring at this stage in my life” is not the best way to draw attention to the economic problems facing the state. |
