| Description | WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Former Democratic Gov. Tony Knowles of Alaska announced on Tuesday he would run for the U.S. Senate seat now held by Republican Lisa Murkowski, the daughter of his successor, Gov. Frank Murkowski.
"With my family's blessing, I have decided to be a candidate for the U.S. Senate in 2004," Knowles wrote in a letter to backers, a copy of which was obtained by Reuters.
