DescriptionPhiladelphia Inquirer article.

An excerpt...
"Amid the latest fallout from the pay-raise vote, the Democratic leader in the Senate apologized yesterday for telling a 72-year-old man who complained about the issue to "get a life."

And the House Democratic chief, in his first public comment on the issue, offered no apology for demoting colleagues who voted against the raise. He was simply promoting those who voted for it, he said, rather than punishing those who did not.

Since legislators voted for pay raises of 16 to 34 percent, public criticism of the move has turned a routine summer break for many lawmakers into a heat wave of angry letters, e-mails and phone calls from taxpayers.

One of the e-mails sent to Sen. Robert J. Mellow (D., Lackawanna) on Sunday was a 287-word letter that H. William McIntyre of Camp Hill was sending to lawmakers.

Referring to the July 7 pay-raise vote, McIntyre wrote, "Happy Birthday! One month ago today... you gave birth to a movement you probably should not have given birth to and some of you wish you hadn't."

McIntyre ended by saying that July 7 will be among "some dates that will never be forgotten... . Gee, I wonder why I didn't get an invitation to celebrate this occasion with you."

Ninety minutes later, McIntyre received a short reply from Mellow: "Why don't you get a life? Please do not mail my office another e-mail."
