Description | Moving aggressively to build momentum in the contest for mayor, Gifford Miller is set to begin television commercials this week, spending close to $1 million in the costliest batch of ads so far of the Democratic primary.
Although Fernando Ferrer was first with his ads last week, the Miller advertising campaign is far more aggressive, running on network and cable television for about a week and a half, according to Mr. Miller's chief campaign spokesman, Steve Sigmund.
Mr. Sigmund declined to say precisely how much the campaign was spending but called the purchase "a high-six-figure buy" that would involve a single spot intended to introduce Mr. Miller as someone with a record in public office and ideas for running the city.
By making such a large purchase, the Miller camp is clearly trying to capitalize on its fund-raising advantage over the three other Democratic candidates and to edge closer to Mr. Ferrer, who has consistently led the field in polls. |
