| Description | The former Chairman of the Democratic Party and a State Senator from Caledonia County is the first Democratic candidate to announce that he will run against Republican Gov. Jim Douglas next year.
Scudder Parker, 62, who served as the head of his party for four years, a public policy official, a minister and Senator -- officially filled paperwork with the Secretary of State's Office and the Elections Division of that office to become an official candidate. Parker has passed an exploratory committee and gone forward with an official candidacy committee.
