| Description | San Diego's mayoral campaign is shaping up as a three-candidate race, and voters want action on the city's pension mess, according to a poll released Monday.
The Datamar survey polled 1,100 registered voters who cast ballots in both elections last year. The results seem to reflect growing outrage over the city's leadership and pension fund problems.
City Councilwoman Donna Frye remains the frontrunner in the special mayoral election set for July 26. About 37 percent of those surveyed said they would vote for her, with 31 percent expressing support for former San Diego Police Chief Jerry Sanders. Businessman Steve Francis trailed with 15 percent. Support for other candidates drops to single digit percentages after Francis.
In a two-way contest between Frye and Sanders, which could happen if the July election results in a runoff, the advantage swings to Sanders. According to the survey, Sanders would get 46 percent of the vote to Frye's 39 percent if a two-way race were held today. |
