Description | Voters won't get a streamlined election process and current elected officials won't get an extra year added to their terms thanks to a decision a few Senate lawmakers made Wednesday.
The Senate and Government Affairs Committee voted 2-1 to defer a proposal that would have moved Louisiana's elections for governor, lawmakers, sheriffs and hundreds of other offices to the same year as the presidential election.
House Bill 80, a constitutional amendment, would have allowed voters to decide if 900 state and local elected officials, who took office in 2004, would serve until 2009 instead of 2008.
