Description | WASHINGTON - Lt. Gov. Kerry Healey mulled a run for Congress in 2006 but has ruled it out, instead aiming for re-election or a run for the governor's office if Gov. Mitt Romney decides not to seek re-election, GOP officials said.
Her decision reflects the grim chances Republicans face in any federal race here, confirmed by a recent poll, GOP sources said.
``The lieutenant governor has informed us that she is not interested,'' said state GOP chief Tim O'Brien. Speculation spread earlier this year that Healey was eyeing a U.S. House seat after a reported strategy meeting for a run against U.S. Rep. John Tierney (D-Salem). |
