Description | "State Supreme Court Chief Justice Deborah Poritz, whose court allowed New Jersey to sell bonds without voter approval and Democrats to swap U.S. Senate candidates late in a crucial election, won reconfirmation Monday in the state Senate for three more years.
Gov. James E. McGreevey applauded the reappointment, calling it a "long-standing and noble tradition" in the Senate.
But the vote was curiously mixed for the former state attorney general, who first won the job under Republican Gov. Christie Whitman."
