DescriptionRepublican Gov. M. Jodi Rell and the state's congressional delegation pledged Monday to work together on key issues facing Connecticut, including a need for more federal funding for transportation and homeland security.

The group also vowed to challenge proposed cuts to Amtrak and the Pentagon's decision to award the $6.1 billion presidential helicopter program to Maryland-based Lockheed Martin and its overseas partners instead of Stratford-based Sikorsky Aircraft.

Monday's luncheon meeting at the governor's residence marked the first time Rell has met with Connecticut's entire congressional delegation since becoming governor in July. Several members participated by telephone from Washington.

"It was a good chance for all of us to get together and frankly share some ideas and some concerns," Rell told reporters.

The meeting came on the same day President Bush released details of his proposed $2.57 trillion budget. Although they were pleased the document includes billions of dollars for Connecticut-built submarines, helicopters and jet engines, Rell and the delegation said they are concerned about cuts elsewhere in the budget.
