Description | ACCRA (AFP) - Niger President Mamadou Tandja was tapped to lead the Economic Community of West African States at the annual summit of the 15-member bloc gathered to discuss the region's security needs.
"I will work diligently on regional and international fronts to promote adequate political stability," Tandja said after he edged out Yahya Jammeh of Gambia in a vote by 10 of his counterparts at the summit in the Ghanaian capital Accra.
"We must work together to bring the citizens of our common community together to build a real community of the people," Tandja said. |
