DescriptionPolitical winds, fanned by last week's stunning admission by Gov. Bob Wise of an extramarital affair, are blowing into the Braxton County town of Flatwoods, where Secretary of State Joe Manchin is expected to announce his candidacy for governor in 2004. Come May 31, Manchin plans to address a gathering of supporters, an announce his second bid for Governor.

However, Manchin is expected to be joined by at least two other primary opponents.

State Treasurer John Perdue, who up to this point has been hestitant of announcing a primary challenge to the Governor, has indicated he will run, if it saves the party from certain defeat.

Also, U.S. Congressman Alan Mollohan, who's father lost a race for Governor in 1956, is meeting with fmr. State Senator Charlotte Pritt, 2 time Governor candidate and potential primary candidate this time, to decide which one will carry the progressive banner in the primary.
