| Description | Secretary of State Joe Manchin expressed sympathy for the Wise family but said this situation has not changed his plans to decide by the end of the month whether to run for re-election next year or to challenge Wise for the Democratic nomination for governor. Manchin said he “definitely will run for statewide office” in 2004 but is still going through the process with family and friends to determine which office.
