Description | As the two candidates for the 13th Congressional District battle over who can best represent seniors, the discussion almost always reverts to one key vote in Congress last year about prescription drug costs.
The Medicare Modernization Act, which passed the U.S. House by one vote, has become a defining issue that both candidates are talking up on the campaign trail, particularly to senior citizen groups.
U.S. Rep. Katherine Harris, R-Longboat Key, cast a crucial vote for the landmark legislation, which for the first time creates a prescription drug program within Medicare. Democrat Jan Schneider, who is running against Harris, said she would have voted against the bill, a decision that would have probably killed what she says was flawed legislation. |
