Description | MIAMI -- Democrat Betty Castor opened a new wave of advertising Monday in her Senate campaign, taking on early criticism over her handling of a terrorist suspect at the University of South Florida and questioning Republican Mel Martinez's priorities.
Castor withstood questions from Democratic rival Peter Deutsch and an independent group for her handling of the case of Sami Al-Arian while serving as president of the university during the 1990s.
With national security a leading issue in the campaign, Castor says her experience gives her an advantage.
