Description | The SDLP today told DUP deputy leader Peter Robinson the ingredients for a political deal have long been in place, saying: "It's the Good Friday Agreement, stupid!"
The two parties are due to meet early next week as part of bilateral discussions aimed at reviving devolved government.
The SDLP rebuke came after Mr Robinson's Dublin speech in which he said the ingredients are in place for a deal if republicans meet the requirements for 'acts of completion'.
The former Deputy First Minister said components for a deal have been there for the last six and a half years.
Mr Durkan said: "It's the Good Friday Agreement, stupid," echoing Bill Clinton's famous US campaign slogan "It's the economy, stupid".
The SDLP leader said: "It is clear that Robinson and (DUP leader Ian) Paisley are playing good cop, bad cop. Meanwhile, the DUP is not actually moving in the negotiations," he said.
Following a meeting with the DUP yesterday, SDLP negotiator Sean Farren said his party had stressed its determination to see the Agreement fully implemented.
