Description"Since 1992, state Sen. John O. Bennett III has been paid $1.5 million in salaries from the state, and the seven municipalities and one school board that employed him as an attorney, according to the agencies.

In addition, the three law firms in which Bennett has been a partner during the past decade have been paid more than $5.2 million from the eight government agencies for extra legal fees on top of Bennett's individual salaries, according to public records compiled by the Asbury Park Press through the Open Public Records Act.

All told, government agencies have paid Bennett, R-Monmouth, and his firms $7.1 million from 1992 through 2002."
