Description | Former Charlotte Mayor Richard Vinroot has dropped out of the gubernatorial race.
This clears the way for his chief rival, former state Senator Patrick Ballantine to take on incumbent Mike Easley in November.
Vinroot's decision not to call for a runoff in the gubernatorial race caught many by surprise.
That included his chief rival, Patrick Ballantine.
At a news conference in Raleigh, Vinroot said he decided not to call for a run-off for spiritual reasons and for the good of the party. |
