Description | Gov. Tim Pawlenty today wiped out the state’s budget deficit by using federal funds, delaying state construction projects and increasing tax compliance efforts. Last week, the governor eliminated 60 percent of the state’s $160 million projected deficit. Today, with executive directives, he single-handedly got rid of the rest.
"Senate Democrats have said their caucus didn’t need anything from this legislative session, but the people of Minnesota deserve something. It’s called leadership," Pawlenty said in a statement. "That leadership starts with a balanced budget, which is what I’ve done today."
