WASHINGTON - Democrat John Kerry has a substantial lead over President Bush among Hispanics in Arizona, but both sides could gain or lose significant support by November, a new poll indicates.
The presumptive Democratic nominee holds a 59 percent to 30 percent lead over Bush among Arizona's enrolled Hispanic voters, according to the poll commissioned by the New Democrat Network, a Washington-based organization that says it is spending $5 million on TV ads supportive of Kerry and other Democrats. Of those surveyed, 11 percent were undecided.
"But there's a great deal of volatility," cautioned Sergio Bendixen, the Florida-based pollster who conducted the telephone survey released Thursday.
The poll of 400 likely Arizona Hispanic voters was part of a larger survey of 1,800 Hispanics that also gauged sentiment in three other critical swing states with fast-growing Hispanic populations: New Mexico, Florida and Nevada. The overall margin of sampling error was plus or minus 4 percentage points. |
