Description | Six Republicans have lined up to challenge U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore. But to take on the 24-year congressional veteran, they have to sell themselves to statewide voters who probably haven't heard of them.
The May 18 primary field includes a Portland cable-access TV show host, a Klamath County rancher, a nuclear engineer turned naturopathic physician from Portland, a Central Oregon contractor, a former Red Army tank soldier from Beaverton who believes he deserves the Nobel Prize for his fitness program, and a business consultant from Bend who borrowed a large chunk of his platform from Democrat Howard Dean.
None of the candidates is a household name, and only three have political experience.
