Description | Alabama’s first female lieutenant governor makes dozens of speeches every month, and there’s two things she knows will happen at every one.
If she doesn’t wear something red, people will express disappointment.
And after the speech, people will ask when she’s going to make up her mind about running for governor.
“Everywhere I go people ask me that,” Lucy Baxley says.
For a 66-year-old farm girl from Pansey, it’s an amazing question.
“I’ll be in a small town somewhere and women will come up to me and say, ‘We are so proud of you. We want you to run for governor.’ It is really humbling because you’ve got to understand that I’m still in awe I made it to the job of lieutenant governor,” she said in an interview with the Associated Press.
