The Delaware News-Journal (referred to more often as simply The News Journal) is a
Wilmington, Delaware newspaper owned by Gannett. Like most American newspapers,
it also makes an associated online version available.
The origins of the News Journal begin in 1785 when the Delaware Gazette was founded.
The paper evolved through a series of name changes, owners, mergers and acquisitions.
In the early 20th century, a family feud among the duPonts resulted in part of the family
owning The Morning News and the other, the Evening Journal. The fued ended in 1919
when the News Journal Company was formed. Gannett purchased the News Journal
Company, consisting of The Morning News and The Evening Journal, from the duPonts
in 1978. The two newspapers were merged to become The News Journal in 1989.
