How do I get authorization to enter election statistics?
FAQ DETAILS
Parent About Website
Answer When people first join OC, they are not able to enter election data. The current process requires a person to participate in the discussions for several weeks to give others an opportunity to assess who the person is. In the final sense, the website owner (Randy) grants access to enter data when he feels that a person has shown maturity in prior postings.

While this process appears problematic at first glance, we have learned the hard way that caution in granting access is warranted. Please bear with the community and share what you have in messages until access is granted.

I have entered over 9,000 races and provided certification for thousands more. Recently it seems I have lost permission to enter data. What happened?

Hey Budgeteer,

I posted a few concerns on a different post located here: [Link] . Look it over and let me know if you have any questions about what I wrote. I don't have the power to restore access, though.

Once again, look over what I wrote and hope to see you back editing.

I wonder if budgeteer ever read any of our messages to him?

I hope so. Reading and acknowledging the concerns are prerequisites to restoring access, in my opinion.

Hi everyone, my name is Matt. I'm incredibly interested in the electoral process and I am excited to start inputting election data once my time to do so has come.

I'm anxious to get started on data input. I notice a few positions in / around my hometown that have not been kept up to date. I've participated in a few threads, how can I gain access to input data?

Hi WSENWNY - You have posted 9 messages on 3 days. Half of which were requests for more access. Your access was raised already to allow a number of non-posting abilities (Key Race Level, Leaning Predictions, % Predictions and Endorsements), none of which have you used. It takes a bit more than this to get access to be able to corrupt the database.

Hello,
I've used this site as an historical resource numerous times over the years, but I have just registered as a user today. My immediate cause for doing so is update the entry of a dear friend who passed away last week, former VT state Rep. George Schiavone. I would like to add his first two state house campaigns, the 1992 and 1994 elections, as well as his later election as Republican National Committeeman for Vermont. How do I go about this? I previously worked as a research editor for The Almanac of American Politics (1996 edition), as well as in the CNN political unit during the 2000 election, and I hold your site in high regard. Thank you for your assistance. Best, Mike Donohue

It often doesn't take "several weeks". But it is important to know that you are committed to providing good info and are responsive to other members in case they need to have you correct how you are managing the data.

Hello everybody,
Anyone able to edit election statistics bother to correct the data for the 1886 House election in New Hampshire's 1st congressional district? Currently, the winner has less vote than the loser, resulting in a negative margin. Due to that situation, setting the date ranging from 3/5/1887 to 3/4/1889 for [Link] would be returned with the message that BIGINT UNSIGNED value is out of range in '(`ourcampaigns`.`Race`.`WinVotes` - `ourcampaigns`.`Race`.`SecondVotes`)'. Thanks so much!
