| Description | Richard Lawrence, a mentally unbalanced man living in Washington, attempted to kill President Andrew Jackson at the funeral of a U.S. Representative. Lawrence came prepared with two revolvers; both misfired.
This is generally considered to be the first political assassination attempt in U.S. history. |
