ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST Parish created within German Coast County. The creation of parishes did not abolish 12 counties established on 10 Apr 1805. The counties existed for taxing & electoral purposes, parishes took over jurisdiction of judicial matters. (Orleans Terr. Acts 1807, 1st. Leg., 2nd sess., ch. 1, sec. 9/ p. 12; Calhoun, 85-93)
