First settled in 1787 and incorporated 1823, Williamsport is a warm and friendly community in Western Maryland. We are about 70 miles west of Washington, DC and 50 miles east of Cumberland, MD.
President George Washington and Colonel Elie Williams met the Town's founder, Otho Holland Williams, who had surveyed the Town with extra-wide streets, on October 14th, 1790 to discuss Williamsport as a site of the new U.S. capital. However, in order to accomodate large ships, the federal capital was moved downstream to Washington, DC.
