Description This seat contains 18 of the 28 wards from the Ross & Skye areas of the old Ross, Skye & Inverness West seat, plus eight wards from the Lochaber area of the old Inverness East, Nairn & Lochaber seat. This enormous constituency is the largest in the UK. It stretches from Dingwall and the Black Isle in the north east, Ullapool in the north west, as well as the Isle of Skye, down to Glencoe and Fort William in the south. Topographically it has all the details one would expect from a Highland region; lochs, glens, islands and mountains a-plenty. The industry of the area is both natural and traditional; forestry, fishing, crafting and quarrying. For the tourist, rugged and romantic Glencoe is a must-see, as is Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the UK. Another highlight is the beautiful railway journey between Mallaig and Fort William which has gained wider fame through the Harry Potter films. The constituency has three whisky distilleries, the controversial Skye Bridge, where tolls have recently been abolished, and, appropriately, with the seat's high number of Gaelic speakers, the Gaelic College, Sabhal Mor Ostaig, on Skye.
