Description |
This constituency consists of the old Aberdeen South constituency (minus one ward), plus three wards from the old Aberdeen Central constituency. It is more middle class than its northern neighbour and stretches westward from the city to include a couple of very affluent suburbs as well as some more rural areas. The city's second university, Robert Gordon, is in Aberdeen South. It specialises in technology, commerce and business-based courses. The fish processing industry in Torry is facing hard times, but this former fishing village, now a suburb of the city, still retains a sense of community, particularly among the older generation. It is also home to the world-renowned food-science and technology research centre.
