The Palestinian Legislative Council effectively ceased to function upon the Hamas/Fatah split in 2017, creating two separate legislatures.
President Mahmoud Abbas decrees on January 15, 2021 that legislative elections will be held for the PLC on May 22, 2021.
Legislative elections were indefinitely adjourned by the President and Fatah on April 29, 2021 due to an alleged effort by Israel to restrict voting in East Jerusalem. Hamas rejected the President's decision to postpone the elections.
