This new northwest Edmonton riding is bordered on the south and east mostly by the North Saskatchewan River, on the west by 97th Street, and on the north in part by the CNR line, the Yellowhead Trail and 118th Avenue. The riding was created in the 2004 redistribution, in which most of Edmonton-Highlands merged with part of Edmonton-Norwood.
The average household income, at $42,966, is Alberta's second lowest, while the number of low income homes, at 23.9 per cent, is the second highest. More than 40 per cent of residents don't have a high school diploma, the third-worst rate in the province. More than 18 per cent of residents' income comes from government transfer payments, the second-highest rate in the province. Single-parent families make up 14.1 per cent of families. Almost one in five people here is an immigrant, and more than one in 10 is aboriginal. Seven per cent of people identify themselves as being of Chinese origin, while eight per cent call themselves Ukrainian.
