Description Iron Chef/Ryori no Tetsujin is a Japanese cooking show produced by Fuji TV, featuring one-hour culinary battles featuring a theme ingredient between the Gourmet Academy's Iron Chefs, each representing major global cuisines, and challengers from around the world. Under the show's legend, the Academy's eccentric chairman, Takeshi Kaga, stages these battles as a means to discover novel culinary creations. Commentary is done by actual culinary academy founder Yukio Hattori and baseball announcer Kenji Fukui with updates from floor reporter Shinichiro Ohta. The judging panel regularly consisted of a culinary expert (food critic Asako Kishi aka the "East German Judge" being the most regular) along with 2-3 celebrities from various fields like entertainment, sports, and politics. Past and future prime ministers Ryutaro Hashimoto, Yukio Hatoyama, and Yoshiro Mori were amongst them, as well as Shinichiro Kurimoto, a regular judge and member of Parliament in Tokyo.

The original run of the series ended September 24, 1999, with four one-off special battles occurring thereafter as the series gained popularity with American viewers on the Food Network. The final special occurred January 2, 2002, for 309 episodes in all. In the years since, many spin-offs have been created from around the globe:
