| Description |
Vogtland is one of ten districts (Landkreis) established after the administrative reform of the Federal State of Saxony effected on August 1, 2008. Vogtland was formed by merger of the districts of Auerbach, Klingenthal, Oelsnitz, Reichenbach and Plauen on January 1, 1996, and then on August 1, 2008, it was mandated to absorb the previously independent City of Plauen to form present-day Vogtland. Plauen remains the administrative seat of the district. Vogtland is the oldest district in the Free State of Saxony.
