Terms for justices last for 8 years. Upon a vacancy, a judicial nominating commission presents three names to the Governor. The Governor chooses one to serve on the court. After appointment, a retention election occurs at the next general election after the justice's first completed year on the court. The Justice then serves for 8 year terms with retention elections at the end of subsequent terms.
