Military junta which took over power from former President Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta by coup d'état on August 18, 2020.
Junta in one day deposed the President, the Prime Minister, dissolved Mali's Parliament and forced the dismissal of the Prime Minister's entire government.
Junta consists of elements from the Malian Armed Forces (Forces Armées Maliennes), which include the Army (Armée de Terre), the Republic of Mali Air Force (Force Aérienne de la Republique du Mali), and the National Guard (Garde Nationale du Mali).
Junta leaders claim to have 7,000 military members backing them and are in effective control of the country.
