50-seat regional legislative body out of which 40 seats are elected by proportional representation and the remaining ten are elected in bloc. The 'Council', as it is otherwise known, came into being as part of a road-map set by the 1948 Constitution of Italy. The Council is obiged by law to use the full official name of 'Legislative Assembly of Emilia-Romagna' (a practice also upheld in Sicily, where their Council must go by the name 'Sicilian Regional Assembly').
