Description |
Breakaway state proclaimed on April 3, 2011 consisting of three constituent administrative regions on the southernmost tip of the Federal Republic of Somalia; Jubbada Dhexe, Jubbada Hoose and Gebo.
Dubbing itself "Azania," the Greek toponym which referred to a portion of the Southeast Africa coast extending from Kenya, Jubaland's independence was declared 'official' by constitution signed at the Kismayo Conference on May 15, 2013. Delegates also elected Ahmed Mohamed Islam "Madobe" President, re-elected on August 22, 2019 [Link] A 75-seat parliament was fashioned on April 15, 2015.
