| Description |
The State of Jammu and Kashmir had a bicameral legislature consisting of a an 36-seat upper house, the Legislative Council, and an 89-seat lower house, the Legislative Assembly.
Per the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act signed into law on August 9, 2019, the Legislative Council will be abolished on October 31, 2019.
The Legislative Assembly, however, which was dissolved by the State's Governor on November 21, 2018, will reemerge on October 31, 2019 as the sole legislature for the newly reconstituted Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
