Description |
Secessionist government formed on May 11, 2017 in de facto control of five southern governorates in the South of Yemen; Al Mahrah, Lahji, Dhale, Socotra, Shabwah, and Hadhramaut, and laying claim to all territory in Southern Yemen.
Council is led by the former Governor of Aden, Aidarus al-Zoubaidi, who took the reigns of the "Southern Movement" created in 2007 which works to re-establish the former "People's Democratic Republic of South Yemen" in power between 1967–1990.
The secessionist government is recognized and supported financially by the United Arab Emirates.
